ATI TV Wonder HD 600 USB with Dell laptop?

I have a Dell 14Z model 5423 i5 laptop. Do you know if the "TV Wonder HD 600 USB" is compatible with its Intel HD4000 GPU? I DL'd what is labeled a "TV Wonder 600 Win7_32_64_Ver_7" (dated: 2010-05-28) driver from the Diamond support site & get "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)". Windows does not find any online updates.

I can use older desktop hardware if needed, either XP or Vista, but was hoping to use the HD-600 as a laptop editor, recording to external USB3 drives. I have many original S-VHS masters shot on 3-chip cameras to edit. I also purchased a JVC HR-S7600U to capture from.

Even some of Microsoft's own downloads and "features" will display that warning, along with a lot of other legit products. Ignore it.

Why did you choose the HD version?

I fail to understand why people use laptops for video work. Especially when something else is available.

VirtualDub does not seem to find the HD 600, I guess because of the driver issue I detailed in my post. Suggestions?

I plan to use Vegas Movie Studio 12 for editing. I have ancient Vegas3 & can upgrade it if needed.

My guess is the quad-core i5 beats the older Vista desktop I have, an AMD-7750CPU/ATI-3450 GPU... and the laptop is a bit more portable (a factor this month). I'll be closer to home next month, so the desktop would work. I'm just trying to get the digitizing started.

Diamond lists more than one batch of drivers for the 600 and HD 600 (they are actually very similar, and many reviewers don't even use the "HD" in the name). The last I heard, Win7/8 drivers were discussed and resolved here: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/3...=1#post2316850.

Ignore the Windows warnings. Microsoft tries to force all manufacturers to "certify" (thus have MS "sign") each and every version of theiir drivers. When such nonsense is ignored, Microsoft scares users. It's really a BS thing to do on Microsoft's part. It's nothing more than a money ploy, as MS charges for the signing.

There's not a difference in the "HD vs. non-HD" devices. They're the same. The only difference in the label used by ATI direct, Diamond, and whoever else. Slight hardware variatons exist across the whole line.

Using a laptop can be fine, if you have a calibrated monitor and speakers attached to it. A mouse and keyboard are also wise. In effect, it just replaces a big box on the floor with a small slab on a desk.

Thanks, LS. I'd read that the "HD" and the 600 were similar, but I see they're the same thing. And thanks for the preferred driver link, I see people in another forum inquiring. May as well get them acquanited with digitalfaq.

Thank you gentlemen for the direction. I used the oldest Vista driver & was able to digitize with VirtualDub this evening. I have my work cut out for me!
