Japanese equivalent is hard to nail down. For one they use the name Victor (or ビクタ) over there instead of JVC. Then almost every device has a different faceplate or different inputs/outputs.

Just a quick follow up... After letting this...

After letting this deck sit for about 6 months, I fired it up and the white line is gone. I have gotten about a good 2+ hours of use out of it without the white line...

Using JVC 9600U, odd white line at top of screen

It hasn't always done this, but as of late there is a white line at the top of the screen. It happens whether I am playing a tape or not. It also is present when using either composite or SVHS...
