What are your thoughts on the Renesas MC-10131 chipset?

The older Sony optical drives used NEC chipsets, however the new ones - like the 7280s and the 5280s - use the Renesas MC-10131. How good are they compared to NEC?

Oh wow, thanks for the tip. The dusty discs were burned with an older drive, so fortunately I don't have to clean off the one I have now. I'll be much more careful how I handle my discs now.

I think I have isolated the problem to the drive itself. I replaced the Samsung with another one and I get perfect results now.

The discs are Verbatim DL 2.4x. They can't be burned beyond that...
