I reloaded XP...then loaded all updates for just the OS. All seems good so far.

Create a RESTORE point.

Load 10-2_legacy_xp32-64_dd_ccc.

I tried installing the older ATI drivers and MMC onto my older test rig (3Ghz P4 / 2Gb DDR2) which has Win7. No dice. They would not install. Si I reformatted and installed XP Home.

It's no problem to reload the machine with XP. Is that what you would suggest? Or, were you hinting to see If I could guinea pig the Win7/ATI AIW? That too is no problem.
