I recently bought a beautiful Telecorder TV/VCR combo. Initial testing found the picture surprisingly clear and audio great, but the VCR ate tapes when ejecting. I decided to attempt a repair, and...
1. The idler tire seemed ok to me. So did the belts.
2. The mode switch was unfortunately buried under many gears that I had to remove to get to it. I opened the switch and used deoxit to clean it.
3. I spent hours trying to get the gears re-assembled in time with each other. I eventually got it so I could insert a vhs tape and move the flywheel by hand to verify that it would receive and eject the tape properly with everything moving at the proper time.
4. I put it all back together and powered it on, but now it will auto shut off within a few seconds of turning on.
I'm assuming that means that my gear timing is still off somehow and throwing up a warning? Any ideas?
