Hi everyone - I’ve got an old Sanyo VTC 9300PN - it’s been in a loft space for over 25 years.

I’ve tried today to see if it still works and - unsurprisingly, it doesn’t.

The first issue I have, after turning it on and placing a tape in the player is none of the buttons press and there is a mechanical “clicking” noise which comes from the front of the player - it is a switch at the front of the player which sits on top of an electromagnet.

Any ideas people?

As with all those old decks - the first recap power supply and only then switch on. It does not mean PS will be alive after recap, so probably it need repair anyway. But because you switched it on - I believe there is 95% possibility it should be repaired even after recap. When PS is recapped and confirmed to work, you can try to go further. Anyway it need full overhaul, if you want it working.
