I recently bought a beautiful Telecorder TV/VCR combo. Initial testing found the picture surprisingly clear and audio great, but the VCR ate tapes when ejecting. I decided to attempt a repair, and...

1. The idler tire seemed ok to me. So did the belts.
2. The mode switch was unfortunately buried under many gears that I had to remove to get to it. I opened the switch and used deoxit to clean it.
3. I spent hours trying to get the gears re-assembled in time with each other. I eventually got it so I could insert a vhs tape and move the flywheel by hand to verify that it would receive and eject the tape properly with everything moving at the proper time.
4. I put it all back together and powered it on, but now it will auto shut off within a few seconds of turning on.

I'm assuming that means that my gear timing is still off somehow and throwing up a warning? Any ideas?

Highly likely timing issue, Honestly TV/VCR combos are not worth spending time or money on but they do come in handy for viewing tapes and saving wear and tear on the main VCR, Check timing marks and holes at the default position which is cassette ejected, P guides fully retracted.
