Hey all,

I have a Panasonic AG-1980 that sat unused for about 6 months. When I powered it on, a tape was stuck inside and wouldn’t eject or play. I followed TGrant’s instructions and manually turned the worm gear to eject it.

Now when I insert a new tape, it gets pulled in but then ejects right away. Attached are some photos and a video.

Any idea what the problem might be? Or how to fix it?

Appreciate the help!

Has it ever been refurbished before? Guessing since it sat that something hardened up, though I can't say I've seen one not "try" to push through the loading cycle a little more than that - this one seems to just immediately turn around the process without any hesitation almost like a sensor that it supposed to be triggered during the load just isn't being triggered and so it reverses as a safety measure intentionally. Could also be that with the manual unload that something got out of alignment too. I do refurb these if you aren't able to figure it out, so PM me if it gets to that.

Yea I had it recapped and refurbished a year or so ago. I've never had loading issues. I read that a dew sensor issue or a dirty worm gear/mode switch could cause it so will need to look into that.
