Umatic sony VP-5000 mystery

So this unit will not rewind. FF and play work great. I have tried everything I can think of. With no carriage or cassette it will rw and ff but when a tape is in it shuts down. I have tried multiple tapes.

new ider
new breaks
new reel
new reeel belt
cleaning
new idler assembly
solendoid looks fine

I do not get it. The only thing ismaybe a dead spot on a motor. anyone ever deal with this?
