I wanted to watch some old home movies recorded from this camcorder. When I plugged it into my tv though, the audio skipped every second. I checked using a different tape from a different brand and got the same problem. The head cleaner tape I had didn't help much. Since I doubt JVC supports this MiniDV camcorder anymore, got any suggestions on how to fix this issue other than "get a different camcorder, preferably from Sony"?

Head cleaners are always useless.
You have a DV tape. Was it recorded LP or SP? And was it recorded on this same camera?

Most of the tapes are SP. One of them is mostly SP but goes to LP at the end. The strange thing is, I played all the tapes a few weeks ago and they played back perfectly.

That's not strange at all. That points to the camera more than anything. It has a fault. That often happens when an old VCR or camera has not been used for a while. It has one last good use in it before an issue became apparent -- usually something power/capacitor related. Welcome to video.

So...what should I do about the camcorder? Is there a way to fix it, or would it be better (or cheaper) to flat out replace it?

Try the tape in another camera to rule out the tape being at fault.
