Mitsubishi MS11V VCR repair?

Heyall.

I've got this Mitsubishi VCR that I've had in storage for a long time now. The rubber belts had perished but I've now cleaned up and replaced them. Unfortunately I still can't get this to work as it should. To save an essay on this, I've made a YouTube video explaining the problem. I'm not very good at making videos obviously, but I hope this video explains the issues I'm having with it.

If anyone can provide some hints on what could be going wrong, it would be greatly appreciated.

Did you clean the mode switch, Also does the capstan motor spin, Look at that shiny metal pole next to the pinch roller, make sure it spins and the belt is not slipping.

The tape won't even load so yes: Dirty mode switch.

I guess it's one of these old school models where the mode switch is soldered below the mech (did a couple similar)

Thanks for those tips. Very much appreciated and I'll look at that. I replaced two belts; one that connects directly to the small motor and the other that wraps around the two large pulleys (I think one links to the head and that is spinning).

As far as the Mode Switch goes, I watched a YouTube video of someone cleaning the mode switch on a VCR almost identical to mine inside. So I'll pull that apart and clean that as well.

Any other contributions welcome.

Prior to making the video, the tape wrapped around the head without and issue. The head would continue to spin when I hit play or rewind, ffwd etc with the tape wrapped around the head. I'm assuming, from what you're saying, that the mode switch has become gummed up since I started putting tapes in and out of the player. That gumming up of the mode switch may have already been well underway initially, which is why I couldn't get the winders to turn when I need them to. Does that sound right.

I bought this VCR in about 1997, so I've had it for a long time. It was relatively expensive at the time compared to other VCR's. I understand that at some stage the quality of Mitsubishi VCR's dropped off due to where they were being made. Sounds like Suzuki doesn't it?
