Hi. I've got 2 Mitsubishi HD-HS2000U machines that have playback issues. Both are a result of my stupidity. I sold them to friends and when shipping I used packing peanuts but did not tape up the VCR door. As a result packing peanuts got inside of the units. One of my friends told me he did not notice them and tried a tape at which point he started getting smoke and turned it off. The other friend told me that he removed the peanuts before turning the machine on. Both units were returned to me and I'm trying to determine if either can be fixed. I've provided YouTube links below to quick video snippets showing the results that I get when I try and play tapes. I've only tried a couple of the basics up to this point including cleaning heads and resetting control cables. Any help/suggestions that you all can provide will be much appreciated. I'd hate to think that I screwed these up beyond repair. Thanks!

You need the service manual and voltmeter and start checking the voltages, An oscilloscope is also a must to check the patterns of frequencies in different points on the PCB as shown in the service manual.

I know, but I thought we were talking hypotheticals now?
