They should be pretty much the same, the video decoding parts are the same in both of them. The differences are in other features, The 9600 has the dynamic drum system which is have a reputation for breaking.

There are nuances with each model, and even unit to unit, but your source tapes will determine which is best.
- retail vs. homemade?
- VHS vs. VHS-C?
- S-VHS or S-VHS-C or S-VHS-ET?
- condition of the tapes
- original recording deck, and artificial sharpening and contrast on it?

- Did my advice help you? Then become a Premium Member and support this site.
- For sale in the marketplace: TBCs, workflows, capture cards, VCRs

If the condition is the same I would get the cheaper (7600) one. The extra features of the 9600 don't do anything for capturing and the dynamic drum system on it has a tendency to develop issues over time.
