Hello! I do have a Pinnacle 510 and it was working fine on my Windows 10 system.

After few weeks without use (also disconnected from my PC) I've decided to copy some VHS tapes I have here, and for my surprise, my software won't recognize it anymore.

My PC does recognize it when I connect/disconnect, but none of my two softwares does. What can it be? It was working perfect till that, must be something simples I guess, but I can't solve it alone!

After all, i'm also willing to get a new one, if its the last case. I just want to copy VHS tapes, so, I wouldn't need any "4K" thing.

Thank you already!

If it's any consolation, my Lordsmurf-sourced 710-USB will no longer work at all with Win 11 for analogue capture. It was hit and miss on Win 10.

Ironically, it still works great for DV transfer via USB.

So, I better think of a new kind of device then? No way to make it work? Damn

Driver issues, Pinnacle don't have any drivers post Win 7, So even if it works partially with lack of the cross bar on modern OS every time Microsoft sends an update it nukes it and you'll have to start all over again. Things you can do, reset your computer to an early date when it was working fine, Remove and re-install the driver, use the capture device on a different computer.

There are variations of 510/710 cards, and random version/sourced cards give random issues.

In general, the good cards work fine in 10/11, but it's very system based.

And you must remember that there is no "Win10" or "Win11", no more than there was a single "OS X" for Mac. The specific versions vastly differ from each others, even more than non-SP, SP1, SP2, SP3, etc. The "latest and greatest" tends to nuke old drivers, because Microsoft does not care about legacy compatibility anymore. It's all about social media (Facebook), games, "cloud" whatever. Not "old" hardware for serious tasks, like video capture.

Nvidia based systems have been a PITA since Win7, so any auto-update to its drivers tends to nuke AV tasks.

Something change. This is why your daily system should not be your capture system. Use an offline system dedicated to capture. It's doesn't even have to be a desktop, there are mini PCs and laptops that work most excellent at this task.

That all said, do try to reinstall drivers, and the green light should come on.

What software are you attempting? Only use VirtualDub (or 2, in Win10, with this exact card), with Crossbar Thing to set input.

Same happened to me on one of my windows 10 computers (with nvidia graphics card btw)

This may backfire. This is where things didn't go well for me. few months ago, I did this, uninstall, reinstall, things went fine.

Few weeks ago when it happened again, I uninstalled, and tried to reinstall, bam, I kept getting an error and was no longer able to reinstall pinnacle drivers on that system.

off-topic, but similar: The same happened to me on a windows 7 system with io-data gv USB, drivers version 1.12, this version is not fully compatible with Windows 7, install, uninstall, now you can't re-install, which is why for that device, windows 7 users should stick to drivers version 1.11 or 1.10

@Hushpower, the official website, also attached. 90% of this forum's threads end up offtopic anyway lol

if you wanna be assured you are getting it from iodata.jp's official domain instead of some random exe posted by some guy

https://lib.iodata.jp/lib/script/cli...s=k3k0221092qf

Do not use it tho... it hasn't been very nice to me, with 1.12+windows 10, no virtualDub, only amarecTV and honestech shitty software... 1.12 +windows 7 do not play nice. 1.11 is better

Mbassiouny, thanks for that. I haven't had any probs with 1.11 and Win 10 so I've probably shot myself in the foot but hey, you've gotta try these things! It is plays up I'll do a rollback.

It's not 90%, but sometimes the best answer is an answer to a question not asked.

My 710-USB has it's light on and shows up in the device list in VDub and Amarec but is otherwise dead: there is no "Composite"/"S-Video" in the Video Source flyout. Nothing there at all. I tried Crossbar Thing, no joy in getting any source into that list.

Check device manager. Force install drivers, as needed.
Set software for compatibility modes.
All things to try -- in general, not just this card.

If Nvidia + onboard is available, go into the Nvidia settings, custom change VirtualDub to use onboard instead.

Just a classic advice, When installing/uninstalling drivers make sure the device is not connected to the system, Anything can kill it, static electricity, ground loops, voltage spikes during installation while turning on and off output pins. And most importantly make sure your computer has a ground pin in the power supply connected to the house main ground, Never use an outlet without ground pin.

Here in California, for new constructions they require two ground sources attached to the meter ground busbar, One via a rod pushed into the ground at least 6 feet and another connected to the water piping system, I learned that when I added a garage to the house.

huh... you do realize there are countries without that...? (assuming you mean what I show in the attached picture)

There are as many countries without earth/ground as the countries with it.

Almost every country I've been in has a ground wire, Some countries have it in the neutral, some have a separate ground and neutral like in North America, High voltage electricity is governed by physics not region.

Almost every country I've been to did not have it, or at least it is not something you get to see/decide to use by yourself.

> High voltage electricity is governed by physics not region.
Ofc, but depending on your region, you may have no choice...
Anyway, what I am talking about doesn't matter if OP lives in the US.

If neutral is the ground then you don't see it. But there are ways to test if you have ground, differs from country to country.
