Hey there,
I just started the adventure of trying to digitize a bunch of home made VHS cassettes.
At first, I did some tests using a Telefunken M 9850G and bought a Elgato Video Capture card. Then, after spending countless hours on this forum and doing some research, I got the opportunity to aquire a JVS HR-S9600 for relatively cheap, and bought a Hauppauge USB-Live2. On top of that, somebody I know had a Panasonic DMR-ES10 sitting around, which will arrive next week.
All in all, I'm quite happy with the results I got so far. But I have two issues I don't know how to solve. I attached some example footage I converted to mp4 for smaller filesize, originally they were captured with
VirtualDub 1.9.11 using the
Huffyuv codec and the JVC VCR connected to the Hauppauge capture card via SVideo.
I played around with BEST, Picture Settings Edit/Norm, Digital 3R, and the TBC, but nothing seems to fix it.
Issue 1:
In this file, you can see that the video is sometimes jiggeling, and sometimes half of the frame is flashing white. Occasionally it seems that a previous or following frame is being repeated. Is that something the Panasonic will fix? Is the tape degrading? I had this issue too while using the Telefunken VCR.
Issue 2:
In some tapes, there are spots when the image turns completely black, causing all the color to disappear. In the video, you see that the image gets dark again, and then the color is there. That was actually me physically disconnecting the SVideo-plug and reconnecting it again. What's causing this? I think, I disabled TBC one time and the color disappearing didn't happen, but I couln't reproduce it again.
Thank you in advance!
