I'm starting to make progress on my NTSC broadcast VHS tapes, this one a PM Magazine from 1986 (a local variety show with national segments). The commercials and old black and white feature clips are 3-2 pulldown / telecine while the local segments (shot on videotape, I know, I was there!) are interlaced video.

If you didn't want to separate each interlace type what would you do to deinterlace for YouTube?

You can see the (unlisted) video here - https://youtu.be/VPifdubHe_Q

Nothing was done to it except AVI capture and upload. I've since used ColorMill to reduce the green (faces look so much better) and trimmed some places where recording was paused. It probably could use Gradation Curves to adjust the dark areas.

Thanks,
billct97

Others can chime in but for mix sources like these, it is best to just deinterlace the whole footage. Nothing can't really be done when it's a combination of sources.

QTGMC or IVTC? I suppose if it looks bad then I can tweak as needed.

IVTC is for inverse telecine, QTGMC is for deinterlacing, if the results end up looking off to you then you can play around with the settings

Just QTGMC, and SelectEven() or Odd to reduce to 29.97fps. I see no reason to overcomplicate this specific piece.

- You won't gain more than 24fps
- And with relatively static "news show" content, you won't really lose much from 59.94>29.97

The current Youtube upload looks quite bad, the interlace mess very visible.
