Hello everyone,

I bought a JVC GRDV3000 new back in the day and created approx 60 Mini Dv tapes. To transfer the tapes to DVD I bought a Toshiba RD-XS34SC, and transferred via firewire. I would like to transfer the tapes to my computer before the tapes start deteriorating (the may already have). I currently have a dell XPS desktop bought back in 2014 and is now running windows 11, and purchase a pinnacle 710 off ebay new in the box.Ii down loaded WInDV, but the software does not recognize the pinnacle. So I am open to suggestions. I did a little research and it seems that older mac books have a built in firewire port, and you can use iMovie to transfer the file. Has anyone had any experience with these? If so what year of mac books have this firewire port. Just looking for an easy setup to transfer the MiniDV's

Thank you in advance for your help
Glenn

It doesn't always recognize the Pinnacle directly, but via Microsoft. It can route through, as some capture cards often did (example = AIW pre-Catalyst).

These are not the easiest cards to install post-7 (none are), but often do install with some tweaking/fiddling. Even the "wrong" Pinnacle cards, that are visually inferior at analog, tend to be fine for the DV bridge. I've only run into a refusal once, and it was with a cheap mini PC.

Noting that cards are all from the 2000s, that eBay is not a great place to buy gear, and that "new in box" means nothing for old gear that could have sat in a 100+(F) degree warehouse for 20 years. Odds of it just being a bad buy are high, and another copy would install without issues.
