The big square connectors are large cable bundles for in/out, and certain 9600 cards allowed you to use two monitors. That's one reason those cards were so popular among small studio users. Those were pro features on what was supposed to be a "consumer" line card.
I'd also suggest some stores/sellers use stock photos and the wrong names for cards. That was a problem even back when sold new at stores like Best Buy. Easy to mix up XT, Pro, etc. (I'm probably guilty of that myself, to be honest.) Once upon a time, you could just go the ATI website, and it showed which was which. That, of course, isn't the case now, since AMD dumped most legacy ATI site content.
