Some people say that Monster Cables are overpriced and that there are less expensive cables of equal or better quality available. Would you be able to recommend other manufacturers and also list the ones to avoid?

I would buy MONSTER cables without a second thought. They are expensive, yes, very much so. But they are easy to find, and are well insulated, good gauge wire, good materials, and low signal-to-noise ratio.

A good runner-up would be thick gold-plated cables from Radio Shack.
