Masking overscan area with same dimensions as ATI MMC?

I used to capture direct to MPEG 2 using ATI Multimedia Center. It had a feature that allowed for masking of the overscan area during capture. I liked the appearance of the border it provided.

I'm currently using Virtualdub to capture analog video to AVI using Huffyuv.

My question is about how to use the cropping function post capture. I'm following the guide here: http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...erly-crop.html

However, I'm wondering what are the best settings for the X1,X2 and Y1,Y2 offsets that would create a border identical (or at least close) to the borders ATI Media Center made by default while capturing.

Does anyone know what numbers to input here?

No one can answer that in detail without at least seeing a sample frame.
Use VirtualDub to directly capture a frame by clicking "File..." -> "Copy source frame to clipboard". Open a graphics program and make a new image by pasting from the clipboard. You can also do it with Windows Paint. Save as a png or jpg and post directly in the forum.

ATI MMC was a bit aggressive, anywhere from 16px to 24px, depending on MMC version. The better method is to only mask what is needed, using the masking guide at the post you linked. I generally don't need/want to remove more than 12 per side. Noting that sometimes I may need to remove 20 at bottom, but only 4 at top. And always use multiples of 2.
