Should I be cropping overscan area in Virtualdub (using this http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vide...erly-crop.html) after I have captured or wait until I'm using Avisynth+. I have been capturing old skateboard videos in Vdub with HuffYUV. I don't do much clean up and usually go straight to AviSynth+ using AVSPmod, QTGMC, resize to 720x540 and convert with x264.

It really depends on the filter chain in Avisynth. But if you know how to properly do it in Avisynth, then do so. It's just really easy to make a mistake, whereas it's somewhat hard to screw up in VirtualDub with that GUI preview. Avisynth is crop off pixels, then add back. But must remember multiples of 2, and the whole cannot be odds (32/2=16 and fine, but 30/2=15, bad).

Using Hybrid, I sometimes skip VirtualDub myself, go from lossless to the H264 with QTGMC.
