I now I posted this question in another thread as a reply, I thought perhaps I should start fresh here.

Since I have been told here that windows is better than mac for backing up dvd's, does anybody know of good ones? preferably free.

one that can run on a windows virtual machine on my mac. I have windows xp pro through parallels on my mac laptop.

I want to make exact copies (not compressed original quality) in folders & .iso format to be able to burn back later to a blank dvd that will play in a dvd player.

The only thing I would change is removing region codes etc.

- ImgBurn (ISO read) -- works for unencrypted discs only
- DVD Decrypter (ISO read)
- DVDFab Decrypter a.k.a. DVDFab in free/trial mode (DVD9 copy mode only)
- AnyDVD + any software capable of reading a disc and creating an image from it

However, these can only run when the computer has hardware access. Virtual machines generally do not have direct hardware access, but instead pass through an abstraction layer. As such, running Windows DVD backup software will not work on a Mac virtual machine. You'll have to use Mac DVD backup programs, if you want to read contents off a disc.
