What will it be used for?
That M70 is a post-LSI model, and not very good for VHS transfer, as it lacks chroma filters. It lacks FR modes as well.
These are not JVC-made models in the classic sense. It's just a generic flawed DVD recorder.
If you can get it for under $100 like-new, it's probably worth it for recording off TV. But it's no good for transferring

I took a chance and purchased this model from Ebay. I must say that yes it does not have FR modes ..only XP, SP, LP, EP, SLP, SEP....1 hr to 10 hr record modes. For a post LSI model it has nearly identical in the SP and LP modes 2hr and 4 Hr ....which it makes it look better in LP than the same mode on the famous DR-M10s model.ii

LP = 3-hour mode on the JVC LSI models.
It has higher bitrate than EP (352x480).
And is has better bitrate allocation than SP (720x480).
For TV recordings, with modern digital sources, 720x480 can be best (but not always).
For VHS recordings, you want the 3-hour LP for better bitrate.

Have you actually used a JVC DR-M10s ----I have one right now --practically brand new --purchased recently from eBay.
(Did buy this unit previously from another eBay seller who listed for Parts/Repair ---but was actually stuck on a 16X dvd-rw stuck in the machine. After that the machine worked flawlessly.)
However, back to the point of my reply. The LP speed on the DR-M10s or DR-MV1 or DR-MV5 is for 4 hr mode ----not 3 hr mode.
Now you may be recalling the LP from the Lite-On/Ilo machines in which the LP (already present or from hack) is 3 hr mode, and Lite-On/Ilo EP = 4 hr.
