I have a GV-D800 which has been forwarding the tape, or slowing it down during playback at random points. I've sent the deck in for repair and it is still giving the same issue. The forwarding does not happen on the same part of the tape, its random and happens on all types of hi8 brands. I'm really lost for what to do and am nervous about sending it in to another repair technician that can "fix it". Any help on fixing the issue or a good repair person for this type of deck would be greatly appreciated.

This is the "Video Walkman" from Sony that played Digital8, Video8 and Hi8, and was not much better than a good camera. So fixing it would be pointless, seeing as how you can get a good Sony camera for under $100 off eBay.

Do the tapes happen to have both Digital-8 and analog recordings. You will see a logo like "D8 -> Hi-8" when it switches between digital and analog modes. D8 uses a faster tape speed than the analog recordings. The GV-D800 is basically a Digital-8 camcorder's tape transport minus the actual camera, so techs familiar with one should be able to fix the other.

What models are you referring to on Ebay for under $100? I would love to get something for around $100 that gives the results the GV-D800 does, but I just assumed fixing it would be best option.

I've not looked at eBay for specific models.
And I'm not sure what you need: Digital8, Hi8, Video8?

I'm looking for a deck that can play all three formats hi8, Video8 and Digital 8. I have the GV-D800 and GV-G200, but both have given me issues and I'm wanting to move on to another deck or camera for my capturing needs. I think I'll try and sell both the GV decks as is, and use that money towards a camera.
