Suddenly having a problem capturing with XP with ATI 600 USB and vdub 1.9.11. Captures start out fine (capture frame 01) but always go bad (capture frame 02). So far have swapped between two ATI 600's, two different cables between computer and capture module and two different sets of cables between capture module and source. Same problem swapping from VHS and CD sources. Same problem with two previously working xp machines. Same problem after fresh install of xp and drivers from digitalfaq on third machine.

I am at my wits end on this, but am prepared to be embarrassed by having overlooked the obvious.

Any suggestions of where to begin again?

I have this problem when I forget to turn off cropping before capture. The codec expects pixels to be divisible by something like 4.

Your screenshots are both 720x480 so it looks like you aren't cropping. What codec are you capturing to? What does CPU utilization look like in the capture window?

I was at my wits end when about posting this problem. It is embarrassing how completely discouraged I was after days of troubleshooting. My post was vague and needy. Sucked it up and started again checking the signal path and noted the problem correlated with tapping on the TBC - an intermittent cable connection at my TBC. . Haven't been this frustrated in a long time!

Thanks to all who did not give me crap for my post, but rather offered suggestions.

Currently feet up with an adult beverage.

This is a protected tape, I have the same problems with some tapes. And here are my ATI 600 USB timing settings:
