is there any difference between & Marantz MV8300 a MV8300P?

also there doesnt seem to be any TBC controls nor does the manual mention any.
i though these were clones of the HM-DH40000U and JVC's website say that has TBC.

It is indeed a clone in an attractive black finish. The Digipure on the HM-DH40000U is permanently engaged. You can only change the picture controls and R3 settings. Nice thing about it is that you can use the tape stabilizer with the TBC, but only on EP tapes.

No clue, the 2005 Marantz catalog only lists a MV-8300, no "P". It might just be an error in listings.

Ah, looks like the "P" model was marketed under their Professional line. http://www.fullcompass.com/common/fi...tz%20specs.pdf

It could actually be a clone of the SR-VD400, in theory. Either way, my SR-VD400 is the same as the regular HM-DH40000U, but it can play back encrypted tapes recorded on the SR-VDA300 pro deck. http://pro.jvc.com/pro/attributes/HD.../SRDV400US.pdf

I don't think the MV-8300P has an actual RS-232 port. The catalog shows an optional adapter that plugs into the JLIP jack and converts it to 9-pin RS-232. Its likely the MV-8300P came with this cable in the box. You can build one if you are looking for an interesting project. The MAX232 chip is readily available from electronics parts vendors

The firewire output spits out an MPEG2 transport stream (*.m2ts) at 720x480i. The audio is encoded in stereo MPEG-1 Layer 2 at I think 256kbps. The stream bit rate should be the same as the "STD" recording speed at 14.1Mbps.
