Hi all
its me again
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but would it be a good idea to ACC instead of MP2, as i believe ACC produces smaller file sizes and better quality
I also have a request for you kwag
You have a weather java thingy on your homepage Can you make it so i can access England Citys for weather info, i live in Sheffield in the United Kingdom this would be good
Later.

ACC might be smaller, but it probably isn't compatible with many standalone DVD players.

I'm still after hearing my own rip of an audio CD to AAC in my new iBook
I still can't believe the sound In a 128Kbps MP3, I can clearly hear the flaws, specially on high frequency signals. They sound like "wabbled". The same music, encoded with OGG Vorbis, sounds MUCH better, but I still can hear audio flaws. With AAC, there are ZERO audible flaws, even at 128Kbps. Yesterday I spent about 5 minutes comparing my an original audio CD track (Styx - Babe) and my ripped AAC audio at 128Kbps of the same track. There is just absolutely NO difference in quality, compared with my high end Sony earphones. ZERO and the beauty of this, is that most AAC files encoded at 128Kbps are smaller that their MP3 counterpart
I'm about to out go and buy an iPod

Hi Adder,
Sheffield is not on the options available at the weather channel. The closest is Leeds. I just added it to the options

@ anyone..
This so called, new codec seems interesting.. but am I correct in assuming
that it cannot be applied to MPEG encoding ??
@ Kwag.. ..what.., no samples to compare up against he he.. just
kidding guy !!
Hope this is not too off topic here.. but.., does anyone know of "another"
PCI card version of a 5.1 surround card (forget about the Audigy/sblive
cards.. those resource hogging and stealling bast@#$#!RD's) out there
for surround sound PC listining ?? ?? ?? oh, and not $$$.$$, but $$.$$
instead hehe .. ??

no.., wait.., I mean, a TRUE 5.1 surround sound card, like the
Dolby Prologic I/II sound.. NOT those fake ones from SBLive cards !!
I want NO fakes !! I want actuall reproduction ie, from .AC3 files and
DVD apps etc. I know that WDVD has this feature to demux to a TRUE
prologic card, soo..
Thanks everyone.

http://cd-rw.org/software/audio_soft...el_aac_enc.cfm
This encoder is mentioned on doom9 as an encoder of choice
There is more on the above here
Also a search on doom9 for aac will give you enough reading to keep you busy for days.

for real transparancy in lossy endoding formats, try Musepack (*.mpc).

I'm currently ripping some audio CDs with CDex with the PsyTEL AAC encoder plugin
I am going to compare the quality to the one produced by Apple's iTunes program, which supports MPEG-4 AAC audio. Apple did screw something up in the encoder, because their format doesn't play in any Windows AAC CODEC ( Propietary insurance i guess )
I have tried several CODECS for WinAmp, and they don't play Apple's AAC format. Same thing if I encode an AAC with PsyTEL encoder on windows, it won't play in iTunes in a MAC
But If the quality produced by the PsyTEL encoder is the same as the one that iTunes makes, I'll go in that direction because I can see several portable audio CD players in the market that already support AAC audio decoding. I was going to buy an iPod, but now I have my doubts
Because if I can only play Apple's AAC format in an iPod, or in QuickTime Pro for Windows ( which I would have to buy!), then I'm better off using a standard MPEG-4 AAC CODEC that I can play with third party CODECs in both a MAC and Windows and portable CD players Plus I'd rather have my AAC music in a regular CD-R (which should fit 10+ hours CD quality in AAC format ), than have all my music in a 10GB iPod that I might drop one day, and bye bye to all my music
Edit: This thread should really continue in the audio section I just moved it

Excelent article. Makes my hair stand on it's edge when I read things like: AAC+) will be able to deliver 44.1 kHz stereo with good quality even at 32 kbps (that is 4 times smaller than average MP3)
Don't you guys wish this would also apply (with corresponding CODECs, of course ) to video
That some day, we'll have a full ~2 hour DVD quality movie quality in 256MB memory
I guess with AAC, the audio compression technology is ahead of the current video compression technology
Time will tell, when some crazy guy comes along and designs a video CODEC that will blow all others away. MPEG-4 video is not the solution, and definitively NOT the future of video. There are things better in the works
I wonder if maybe we go crazy one day, and start poking on the AAC CODEC sources, and tweak something and make KAAC encoded audio. But then, they will start to say that it's only a "template"

so let'em.. They'll always be gain-sayers or those that are jelious (jorel's
favorite word hehe)
.
.
always coming up w/ quick 's
I'd sure love to hear some samples though. Just curious. I'm not at a point
where I can install a new codec though, but if I have to, I hope it's a simple
"single" file, and not dozens of drones.
