I was wondering what program is the best to convert Lp's and cassettes to mp3 or wave files. I have been using Polderbits Sound Recorder and it's not bad, I was just wondering what experience others have had in converting their lp's to mp3's. Thanks

I use Cool Edit Pro to clean up the sound , pops, clicks, etc,,,on the wav's that i capture from LP's. Does an excellent job of it too. There was an app called Cleaner, from Steinberg Labs or somebody, that cleaned well , lack of other filters though, and would let u burn directly.
I've tried MusicMatch when wanting to do quick ripps from LineIn direct to mp3. But we do crates at a time so quality is important, so i stick to CeP.

I still use AudioCatalyst to do the conversion , either from cd or from wav's , once cleaned up in CEP. Im trying out WinLAME (based on the Lame codec) and dbPowerAmp. I hear those are good too.

I go line in through Audiograbber and get great results.

I use total recoder and cool edit for taking audio from line in on the sound card. Have transfered cassettes and vinyl with very good results.

audio is one of the better things in life!

i have many vinyls.

i recomend this:
wash your vinyls before record!!!

sound forge,
to edit ,change volume,cut,etc...
no need explanations

wavecorrector,
fantastic to remove risks and pops,cos don't remove the treble,
it remove only the noises,is better ...,

t-racks,
fantastic prog,simulation of "tubes"

ps:
never normalize the audio ,loss dinamic impression..only change volume!!!

I use almost the same setup as you, except I use a Click/noise eliminator plug-in for Cool Edit (I'll look for the name). It works as good as any (of the many) other click eliminators I've tried, except it's so fast I can remove click in real time while recording with a PII-300 !!!!

for cassetes,the best for me is

Groove Mechanic 2.4b (the last???)

rec from line in and save as .wav,
remove clicks(but remember as i wrote: wavecorrector is better in this function)

....remove "humm" and Hiss" from tapes without loosing bass and treble with precision.( a little slow but perfect)

you can configure all parameters in individual mode.
and the best ...very simple to use.
if here i got some space i put a sample music that i use all this programs
to clean my old vinil.(George Harrison).
the guitars and strings very clear,no "clicks" and "pops" and basses without a "humm" from pick-up .

my friends form "distant ages" can't believe that the musics came from vinyl!!!
fantastic result ,only need dedication and patience!!!
the programs do the rest!

i think the last version of groove mechanic is 2.4b and it is installed in another image ghost that i did, and i can't remember the homepage too!

I like using EAC (Exact Audio Copy - the one and only decent CD ripper) to do the actual recording cause it has a built in volume level setter thingy for when I rip my techno records.
