im having problems with nero 5.5. ive burnt kvcds before with no problems. i know a vcd is burnt in mode 2 but lately when i have tried to burn a kvcd it goes to burn in mode 2 but the max mb it displays that i can get on is 700mb now the file i had was training day 807mb i put that on using the drag n drop n it said it was 696mb so i burnt it and the whole movie fits on but when i watch it on my dvd player the time only goes up to 80 mins and not 122mins (the movie is this long) also when i click on the file and click properties it says its a compliant vcd but i had already unchecked the standard vcd box? i use to be able to get the full time on before and before the reading would have displayed 807mb, i dunno if i have acciendtly changed an option or what but any help would be appreciated

I use nero 5.5.72.
Check these:

Under file/preference/expert features make sure your max cd length is correct. I have mine set to 82 min but if you can overburn more or have 90 min cd you may want to set it higher. In the "General" setting there are 2 settings for the warning "yellow" and "red" which are self explanatory. Mine are set to 74 and 80.

Just some thoughts here:
As far as the movie problem you mention 696mb = 122min yet only plays 80 min on your DVD player, I don't know if Nero truncates a file when it reaches max capacity? Not to ask a dumb ? but did you have more than 1 copy of this movie on your HD. Did you try to play it through on your PC first to make sure its complete. If it turns out your preferences were wrong then burn it again. I did the math size wise you have 86% of the file and timewise you have about 66% of the time so I don't believe it is a case of truncation. If a file was re-encoded to standard video assuming reduced audio you would expect about 80 min on 1 cd. But a reencode in Nero would be slow and you would have noticed the time?

Wow, sorry, how easy it is to misunderstand.

Now I hope you are talking about a standalone player and not one on your PC. Standalone do have setup options such as Pal NTSC or other which could affect frame counts and speed. For all I know your player may have a display setting which is adjustable.

Make sure this is set correctly first.

Also if you tried to flash the wrong bios then.....

Its only that I have experienced a similar problem on my 2 apex players but only when I modify the original DVD framerate. If the movie was 23.97 and I bumped it to 29.97 then I sometimes get weird readings under certain conditions (not yet identified). I have seen the opposite though a 5 minute clip shows up as 6 or 7 mins but stops at 5 minutes the way its supposed to.
I am still playing with the pulldown and up options to see if they are causing this effect but that's not my priority. Its on my list.
Right now all I know is I have yet to play a clip at 23.97 without a sound skip. I have to pull it up to 29.97 and it plays fine regardless of what the display says.

Go to "Settings" and then "CDRDAO".
There you'll find the overburn option.
