No your problem are in the I/O between your CD and the HD. That happens very often. Don't think a CPU is all in a PC.

does this mean that kvcds wont be able to play without problems like this... or is there a way to fix it?

Off topic:

I actually really wonder why you don't use XviD for your encodings if you only plan to watch them on the PC...
Nothing against KVCD, but MPEG-4 is just way more compressible, and if you set it right you get better quality-encodes (or better quality on less space) than with MPEG-1/2.
That's just my opinion here...

i was actually looking into ogm... but even if i never use kvcd again... it was fun...
