We can't assume how you did encode your KVCD so use this template from the K-vcd section and answer by copying that and fill out.
Thnx!
-----------------------------Please Fill out----------------------------------
SOURCE:
- Filetype (divx/xvid/mpeg/mjpg - so what says Gspot??) ? :
- interlaced(means combing on fast moving scenes) or not interlaced ? :
- Framerate (29.97, 23.976, 25.000) ? :
- Resolution ? :
- Audiosamplerate (44.1 khz, 48 khz)? :
- Audio Type (AC3, mp3, mp2) ?:
- Is Audio VBR or CBR ?
(some answers you get if using Gspot on the source!)
DESTINATION:
- KVCD, K(S)VCD or KDVD ?:
- Mode (mpeg1 or mpeg2) ?:
- Framerate (29.97, 23.976, 25.000) ? :
- Resolution ?
- Audiosamplerate (44.1 khz or 48 khz) ? :
- Audio Enc Type (mp2, AC3) ?:
- Encoding Appl. (CCE or TmpgEnc) ?:
- muxing Appl. (TmpgEnc, BBmpeg, etc.) ?:
- Authoring Appl. (Vcdeasy, VCDgear, Nero) ?:
- Burning Appl. (Vcdeasy, Nero, etc.) ?:

i am also getting this chopped up audio... but its chopped up when i play on my pc... dont know about my standalone dvd player coz i havent bought it yet this problem is not throughout the movie just in certain parts... and the prob came up only after burning the bin file to cd...
info: i backed up a dvd to kvcd using the kvcdx3 template
SOURCE:
- Filetype .VOB
- i guess its interlaced coz i had to add FieldDeinterlace() to get rid of those nasty jagged edges...
- Framerate 29.97
- Resolution 720 x 480
- Audiosamplerate 48khz
- Audio Type AC3 (i guess)
- Is Audio CBR (i guess)
(some answers you get if using Gspot on the source!) > .VOB is not supported by Gspot
DESTINATION:
- K(S)VCD
- Mode mpeg2
- Framerate (23.976)
- Resolution 528 x 480
- Audiosamplerate (48 khz)
- Audio Enc Type (mp2)
- Encoding Appl. (TmpgEnc)
- muxing Appl. (BBmpeg)
- Authoring Appl. (Vcdeasy) > added menus as well
- Burning Appl. (Alcohol) @ 4x
need help...pls....

If I were you I would stop immediatly making KVCD untill I have a standalone to test the results !

If so, just burn at a slower speed. But that can also be a matter of CPU power that is too low to read a video smoothly from a CD or a bad configured DMA settings for the drive... In other words : there is no real problem.
That's also why it's better to have the standalon before to make any KVCD

oh i forgot ...
the application i use to play the kvcd is PowerDVD (just in case the problem lies here) because it allows me to use the menus i made but PowerDVD did play the image (.bin) file perfectly .. i havent checked it out with wmp because i cant use the slide bar to get to the problem parts of the movie
anyways... hope somebody out there has a solution...
cheers

So the problem is ONLY when you burn the CD ? Then I gave you THREE possible reasons !
I'm sure you' dont have any problem ! Buy a standalone and try.

honestly... i dont plan on buying a standalone anytime soon but the thought of 'near dvd' quality kvcd video beats divx any day... even if its just on my pc...

i cant burn any slower than 4x using alcohol... i dont own nero... as for CPU... i have Athlon XP 1600... that should be enough for movies right??? it plays avi files fine from cd... on the other hand there might be something in this DMA config... how do i check that out and what are the proper settings for kvcd??
thanks Dialhot

No need. 4x is ok. Everything under 8x is correct.

That's means nothing : all depend about the settings of your codec / direcshowfilter. Especially in PowerDVD that do a lot of things on audio and video.
I have a P4 1.4Ghz and WinDVD. If a let WinDVD doing all it wants on to enhance the audio and the video, I use my CPU a 100% during playback ! The same video played with zoomplayer use barely 60%.
Look at you CPU while you are playing a KVCD. If it is near 100%, then you can have problems.

Not with PowerDVD so...

Nethertheless your solution is : stop using PowerDVD or turn off some features !

Go in panel control / system / Devices settings. Look for "primary IDE" and open it. Check is "DMA if available" is set for all the device and check if there is not "PIO mode only" indicated anywhere. Do the same for the second IDE channel.
Note: how is you IDE configuration ? HD as master on IDE1 surely, but for the rest ?

Note : this problem is not related to MPEG but to KVCD. I mean than regular VCD mpeg don''t suffer this "not in real time" seek.
Use WinDVD. I switched from PowerDVD to WinDVD a long time ago because power DVD can't play correctly MPEG1 KVCD !

for Primary IDE channel Device 0 and 1 are "DMA if Available" for Secondary IDE channel Device 0 is "DMA if Available" and Device 1 is "PIO Only" which one is correct? DMA or PIO?

Nothing should be in PIO. PIO is a lot slower than DMA (for instance, my HD bandwith is 40MB in DMA and only 7 if I force it to use PIO !).
What is the device connected as slave on the second IDE channel ?

i have 2 40 gig hds a cd rom and a dvd/cd-rw combo drive of the two cd/dvd drives the combo is 1st in the drive letter arrangement... when i boot it searches the combo drive first for bootable cd (i suppose that would make it the secondary master)...
i made an image file from the cd that had the skipping audio... loaded the image and it played perfectly... so the cd is ok... phew..

According to what you are describing, the DVD should run in DMA mode and so nothing to improve there.
