I am trying to get into recording weekly shows but I do not want some crapy video coming out of it, I was hoping someone can help me out.
Here is what I have:
PIII800
512MB of RAM
7200 WD 60GB Hard Drive
WinXP Pro
VisionTek Ti4600 GeForce4 128MB with ViVo ( this is what I use for capture ) using nVidia WDM 1.16 drivers

I have tried WinDVR 2.0 ( got good but not great results )
I have been messing around with VirtualDub & MJpeg codec + the Huffauge codec, the problem with the second one is that the capture is so big for 1 hr of a show.
What would be best suggestion from you guys to do?
I am trying to get the same quality as KVCD.net KVCDx3 Mpeg1 Farscape sample.

The best quality is usually achieved capturing with the Huffy codec, and then compressing with TMPEG. I have tried so many other methods, and they just don't compare. I have used WinDVR, and it's about the best real-time software mpeg capture program I have seen as far as quality is concerned. But it doesn't compare to a Huffy AVI capture and then encoding with TMPEG. I also tried PowerVCR, and the quality is :P blah! worse than WinDVR. Keep an eye on EO-Video. I think they have plans to capture real-time to mpeg in a future version

kwag, is it at all possible to remove chanels from windvr? I have just got a copy off my mate. I done a auto scan and the majority of channels are static channels.

I use windvr too, but I don't use the TV channels at all. Just select Composite or S-Video input.

I have to use the channels as I have a PAL card, and nothing comes up with composite

Both are crap, but PowerVCR is double crap
I tested capturing with standard VCD templates from my portable DVD player via S-Video into my WinTV GO. The result is not very good. It's much better with WinVCR. But if I capture with Vdub using the Huffy CODEC, and then use TMPEG to encode to a standard VCD, the result is amazing!. There's just no comparison. Maybe capturing to MPEG-2 and higher bit rates would be another story, but that's not what I wanted to do.

I'm using the PCI Hauppauge WinTV WDM drivers

Well i just now have the soundforge drivers installed on my ATI tv wonder and am experimenting with them.. Yes i can see a they are a lot better in some ways, but the only thing i dont love about Huffy though is the compression.. I mean i can work around it, but thats quite a lot of space it takes up..

The only thing that i liked about mpeg2 real time capturing was the space saving.. Hopefully they come out with something really good soon

If you use the btwincap drivers, they are WDM.
Go to google.com and search for "Huffyuv v2.1.1"
There are many sites that have the CODEC.

ok, just tried installing the btwincap, and it went to install conexant wdm video and audio drivers is this correct??

I canacled as I am unsure seeing as I have a hauppauge tv card.

Just installed the btwincap and it buggered up, could not get anything to cap, kept saying it couldn't find the card, and the huffy codec is crazy, took up just over a gig for 30 second cap uncompressd.
