Hi
I'm trying to output MPEG files from AVI input.
I'm using TMPGENC (have tried v.2.5 and now ver 3).
I'm selecting DVD pal output, making sure file size is below 4MB.
All looks well for 20-30 mins, slow but steady, then the PC shuts down completely!
It's not a temp space problem, I've lots of room on disk.
Have tried various settings, and many different AVI files but every time it crashes.
Any Tips appreciated.
D
PS - Don;t have same problem if select the other DVD output

Hi there, thanks for your reply, sorry I've taken so long to get back....
I have 256MB Ram. As for virtual, I'm not too sure.
I am writing to a (VirtuAL?) drive partition F which has 12GB of spce.
(By the way, the crashes occur in all other DVD authoring packages I've tried).
Regards , D

I didn't see that. What do you call "other DVD output" ?

Ah, I installed TMPGenc Version 3 and tried "Extended DVD"......it looked like it was progressing ....but actually just took a bit longer to crash.
The system shuts down & reboots; as I mentioned, the same problem in 5 or 6 pacjages I've tried.

That can't be other thing than a memory leak somewhere and tmpgenc is not the responsible (else anyone would have this).
Don't you have a antivirus a little bit too invading ? I mean, perhaps it tries to read the mpeg while it is encoded...
Note: how did you read the avi ? Directly from tmpgenc or you use a other way ?
Note: You still didn't explained what you call "other DVD ouput !". AS this one works according to you, I have to understand what it is to try to fix the problem with the "other output".

I am reading AVI direct from tmpgenc.
By 'other DVD output' I am referring to the option in TMPGenc Version 3.
If you go to "Set Output" you can select either "DVD" or "XDVD" which is described as "Extended DVD".

I don't know this version. Did you have any problems under 2.5 ?
Note: XDVD ? What the hell is that ? This version of tmpgenc really sucks !

Yes, I had same probs with v2.5.
I will persevere with 2.5, as there are many more threads of help & guides etc. V3 seems to have an interface which is more friendly to novices like me.
I had thought that I'd get results by dabbling into KVCD, but packages like ToK and DIKO use Tmpgenc in encoding hence I get the same crashes there.
Thanks Dialhot, You've hinted at memory; I was going to upgrade anyway so it's worth a try!
(PS you may ask why I need to burn to DVD rather than VCD...it's cos my sony & panasonic DVD players will play only DVD.

But it' also a new software and that means brand new bugs.
Perhaps you are the first one of the forum that tried it in "DVD" mode and discovered a bug !
I hope you will find what the problem is and continue to enjoy KDVD.

Thanks for your help.
In another thread in the section "120 Minutes....." the poster says he can't burn "The passion".
THe Passion...- guess which AVI I'm having my system crashes with??
Methinks I'll get another AVI 1& see if I still have probs.
