Hi Kwag,

I guess I'm the only one here who's got a Sylvania DV2000, and the thing can only manage to play the 352x240 VBR. It plays standard SVCD (The information I posted for the Sylvania on the compatibility isn't correct, the video is jerky with the vbv 48 ). This time I tried the new LBR template and the results were horrible, blocks everywhere and so on. I'm trying to encode Hart's War (over 120mins), what would be the best way to go?

You mentioned on the "What's Happening" forum that plus and Lbr are the same and lbr is better, but the movies I used to do with the Plus template were decent. What about the original templates? Another problem is that the vob's I've got are full screen, should i make it wide screen some how? and see if it can fit on 1 cd? My main goal is to always get the movie onto one cd with the best quality. I do this:

DVD Ripper,
DVD2AVI with forced film and AC3
HeadAC3he to 128bit dual channel
Tmpgenc with lbr 352x240 template
bbmpeg to remux

Thanks
Spyglass.

Hi Spyglass,

Use the file prediction formula to put your movie on one CD. Look here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1294

Thanks Kwag,

Been reading up on the prediction formula.
However, which would be better to use: LBR 352x240 or KVCD PLus 352x240?

They are now basically the same. The only difference is the LBR has a MAX bit rate of 1,800 and the 352x240 PLUS it's 1,150. Idiot me, because it was supposed to be the other way around . So you may want to fix that, and I'll fix the posted templates. The idea is that the LBR can go to 180 minutes, but not the 352x240 PLUS. The LBR sticks the MAX just like a regular VCD, which is 1,150Kbps. The 352x240 goes higher, to show less macroblocks on high speed scenes, but gives good quality only up to 120 minutes.

So the LBR template is about VCD quality...
and the 350x240plus is a little better than VCD quality???

wouldn't the LBR Template be better since it maxes out at 1800 bitrate and the 350x240plus only goes to 1150?

So since I am confused...
Which is the best template to use for 120min on 1CD for a 35inch Television???

Yes. The 352x240 PLUS will look better on high speed scenes, and it's perfect for a 120 minute movie. The LBR give no more than VCD quality, because the MAX is set at 1,150Kbps. On the other hand, it can stretch up to the 180 minute mark

I changed them the way they were supposed to be. The LBR MAX=1,150Kbps. The 352x240 PLUS MAX=1,800Kbps.

It all depends on the quality you want. For 120 minute on one CD-R, you don't have any choices other than the LBR or the 352x240 PLUS. After that, you'll get excelent ~90 minutes on a CD with the 352x480 PLUS. Next step up the KVCDx3 ~60 minutes of near DVD quality on one CD. And for low to medium action ~60 minutes per CD, the 704x480 PLUS will top all.
