Yes, I know that 5.1 is better, but we can't have 5.1 with .mp2, can we?

No we can't Quote:

So, if my DVD has both 5.1 and 3/2... Which should I choose to convert to mp2 with surround 2 downmix?
|
No, your DVD has 5.1 as 2/0 and 3/2 which are both Dolby 5.1, AKA Dolby Digital. So you use the 3/2 channel to convert to .mp2 with surround 2 information. ( Someone corrrect me if I'm wrong )

So basically Dolby Surround 2 ( encoded as .mp2 from a 5.1 source ) is "almost" the same sound as 5.1 Dolby Digital

warning:
some old audio boards, "don't like" to reproduce
" encoded as .mp2 from a 5.1 source ".
the sound is a little scratch.
i post about this here in the forum ...don't remember "where",
and in doom9 too. DSPguru write me about this "real problem".

Well, as 5.1 Dolby Digital is a discrete system that keeps the multiple channels fully separated, I think that what we (headac3he) are doing is to encode a 3/2 Prologic II from a 5.1 Dolby Digital.
And that makes me think again... may be it's better to compact an already professional encoded prologic II (using the 3/2chAC3) than encode it ourselves (using the 5.1 Dolby Digital AC3).

If you encode from a 5.1 source with the "Dolby Prologic 2" feature of HeadAC3he, you will have surround channel separation on rear speakers. And that's a real blast

Well, I was talking about 3/2 prologic II! So they sure have rear stereo separation. That's exactly what differs prologic and prologic II (the rear stereo separation).

Ok, just encoded my first ProLogic II soundtrack (American Pie), and used the same CBR so of course it won't mess up my file size. Now I need to mux it and make an image and burn it and try it .

From what I can gather from that Dolby document, they also differ in that ProLogic needs to be specially encoded, whereas ProLogic II doesn't. They must have some damn clever people there.

Make sure you set your receiver to Prologic, unless it does it automatically, or detects the signals and "Auto-switches"

I guess SansGrip burned his Pie, I MEAN American Pie movie, and after hearing the surround sound on his KVCD from his Prologic receiver, he's going to watch the whole American Pie movie just to listen to it. I know what I was missing, before I started to encode with this mode

Yeah, I see that too. It means (correct me if I'm wrong) that a Prologic II decoder can get an unencoded stereo material (like a cd music) and play it through all the speakers, but if you have an encoded material (ac3 3/2 movie soundtracks) it will have rear stereo separation.
Is that right
