Hey kwag, basically my problem is that my new Samsung 21 inch flatscreen TV (not HDTV) overscans a lot. I looked everywhere and found out that there was an option in TMPGEnc in Clip Frame where you could modify the arrange method selecting Center (custom size).

I think the standard one TMPGEnc uses is 480x480, but like I said my TV overscans too much and if I use this my TV overscanning will cut off some subtitles from Divx movies. Now I did some testing going from 480x480, to 470x470 and so on until 400x400. I created a 15 second clip with each one (MPEG2) and burned all of them. When I watched all of them I found out that I could see the whole movie at 450x450.

Now my question are:

1) Is this arrange method ok? or does it have to follow any standards?

2) Anyone know if there is an MPEG to test how much your TV overscans?

3) If 450x450 is the right arrange method for me, using this info how do I find out what ratio I should sue for widescreen movies. Because if I also use 450x450 with them, I will get a square picture.

Hi Kban,

Why don't you use FitCD It calculates the correct size for either 1, 2, or 3 overscan blocks

I wouldn't recommend using 450x450 as resolution... It's a wonder your player can handle it, and don't expect any other player to do so...

I really have problems to see what your problem is with 480x480 for example... use "Blocks TV Overscan" and set it to 2... see if that helps...
