hello there..

as you gathered from the title, i just started KVCDing, i just downloaded all the templates 120 mins, 180 mins and 360mins and Widescreen for PAL and NTSC, atm i am running a batch encode in tmpgenc with these templates for the same film to see which one will work best for me, but, been browsing the forum, and now having doubts that there is a lot more to it, than just loading the templates. Tried to get an idea on what else to do, but the more i was reading the more i got confused as i am new to all this. and i noticed that it encoded just the video, so would have to get the sound multiplexed back into the new video file.. got no idea how that works, but the guide is pretty simple for that, just got a little blown away when codecs were involved .svs files.. hae no idea what these or how to do lol

If anyone could explain the steps to take to make kvcd, stupid guide to kvcding it would be much appreciated.. many thx in advance!

atm got a movie 544x304, 151898 (1:45:35) want to fit this onto one cdr, so the KVCD teplates for 120mins.

All i tried so far, with touching anythink is use the original template of KVCD 120 mins NTSC 352x240 and loaded it to run on that movie, but seems i need to do lots more, like use fitcd and all, this is where, its all going through my little head... HELP )))

In TMPGenc, just change the stream type to include adui+video and you don't have to mux it all together.....

Hey XsniperX, don't do that
If you encode the video with the audio youŽll get a crappy mpg file. The KVCD thing is awesome, but there's steps that you can't let be (sorry for my english ). I know that are some dark tricks for first time users (I'm included in that list ) . But if you try to follow the black prince's guide, you'll have a good result and not a annoying thing.

My trial today, was not using anythink, no filters, no fitcd or no avisynth, put template in there and encoded, 105 mins came out 455 megs inc audio, Q was mediocre. so i guess just the template isnt enough .. need someone to help me saysing what to do step by step, as having problems with the guide.. sry )

Ok, finally managed to know what .avs files do... correct me if i am wrong, they by pass the movie to add all the filters to it while you will be encoding in tmgenc....??? think so lol..

Ok, now been looking a lot on the forums, reading and reading, but i need someone to help me to give me some script templates pls i could use, also i used the script in the guide, and the Sample.dll didn't load, then the TemporalCleaner didn't too, then the Convert to\tempral cleaner didn't work, so had to put # in front to see if it was going to work.

LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\LegalClip.dll")
#LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\Sampler.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\DustV5.dll")
#LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\TemporalCleaner.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\GripFit_Preview.dll")
avisource("D:\SHARE2002\DVDRips\Hannibal cd1.avi")
ConvertToYUY2()
LegalClip()
GripCrop(352, 240, overscan=1)
GripSize()
SpaceDust()
#TemporalCleaner()
LegalClip()
#Sampler(length=24)

I am more interested in 120 mins KVCD most movies are within that margin, i don't have dvd, all my sourve are avi dvdrips (divx & Xvid).

Next step is what i read about file sizing. Going to read this now look it up and hopefully get the giss about it, as my first attempt withoug scripts, came out with 300 megs spare on disc lol

thx for help in advance

For temporalcleaner you need the temporalcleanerold.dll for it work. The .dll you have is for the 2.5 version of avisynth. Next read more about file prediction that will utilize the sampler(length=24) which will help you to predict the right cq value to use. Here is a link for the prediction

thx again but i cannot find any templates for scripts that i could use to try out for KVCD 120mins

That way i can see what are the most popular filters for avi to kvcd, and whay sort of settings i can put my hands on and then play around with them.

As for File prediction, will take a look tomoro, been at it now for about 10 hours, reading about it all lol, interested in it a lot, but hard to use all this programming language lol

You can use any KVCD templates with all filters... If you're encoding from DivX or xvid the source is probably very noisy. You should try using FaeryDust() that's within the dust5.dll and Convolution3d(preset="movieHQ")... these filter combination gave me excellent results on DivX movies on one CD.

Thx Jellygoose.. so something like that should be OK then...

LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\LegalClip.dll")
#LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\Sampler.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\DustV5.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\TemporalCleanerOld.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\GripFit_Preview.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth2\Convolution3d.dll")
avisource("D:\SHARE2002\DVDRips\Hannibal cd1.avi")
ConvertToYUY2()
LegalClip()
GripCrop(352, 240, overscan=1)
GripSize()
Convolution3D(preset="movieHQ")
SpaceDust()
TemporalCleanerOld()
LegalClip()
FaeryDust()
#Sampler(length=24)

__Hashed the "sample" ones as they don't work... dunno what sample is for yet. (got it found it haven't tried it yet.. but what does it do?
__Do I need to put any values between the (xxx) or not?
__Do I need all the filters there or can i take some out?

Another Question about file predicting:
bit confused:
I Have
1h45min of movie
15800
124 megs of audio

So 800 - 124 = 776 <-- my predicted file size for video, so i need to get the CQ number right to get about that much of video .. right?

but tehn doing the calculations
158000/105/24 = 62.7 then 776/62.7= 12.4.

So My sample file size is 12.4 megs. Ok what do i do now, so that i get the value for CQ??

The next step dunno what to do.....

Sp i think before i can get started only need a couple things clarified..

Thx agian to every1 who posted replies very much appreiated!
and thx again in advance for this question(ss) lool

Hi XsniperX
Let me try ask you something:

Quote:
__Do I need all the filters there or can i take some out?
Some filters have the same function more or less strengh:
SpaceDust() <=> FaeryDust()
Convolution3d() <=> TemporalCleaner() <=> Fluxsmooth()
If you choose the "combo" FaeryDust() + Convolution3d() you'll have more encode time and less end filesize. While you choose SpaceDust()+TemporalCleaner() you'll have less encode time processing, but with a larger final file. Give a try.

but tehn doing the calculations
158000/105/24 = 62.7 then 776/62.7= 12.4.

Quote:
So My sample file size is 12.4 megs. Ok what do i do now, so that i get the value for CQ??
You'll need to use the sampler() How
Leave it line without the hash # ( Sample(length=24) ).
Leave the CQ untouched (default for KVCD3x = 60)
Hit Start
In few minutes you'll finished to encode a sample file with one second for each minute of your movie, with a filesize near of the predicted filesize (12.4Mb ) If not, you'll need to up or down the CQ number, with this formula:
"Pedicted Filesize" / "Final Sample Filesize" x "Last CQ TRY" = "New CQ TRY"
Using your example: 12.4 / Final Sample Filesize (eg: 14.5mb) x 60 = "New CQ TRY" (eg: 51.3) . So you change the CQ number to 51.3 and Start again. In few minutes you'll have a new shot of your file. Compare with your Predicted FileSize (12.4) and change again the CQ if you need. With 3 ou 4 shots you'll target the size of 12.4Mb.
Then, you back to hash the sampler() line and your avs will encode the whole film, not the "sample"
Sorry if I complicate it.

One more think you talk about KVCDx3, but i use KVCD 352x240 120mins, same principle right?

Will post my attemps once done )) WooHoo!

Yep! The same thing. But, if your DVD supports KVCx3, give it a try. I have been awesome results with 528x480 resolution. And got ~137 min. on 1CD (The Count of Monte Cristo, 16:9, with subs) with the hints of Kwag and the other "Wizards "
It's really worth the bad sleep nights, trying to figure all this.
