I'm trying to put a 53 min MPEG2 file onto a CD in SVCD format. Currently the size of the MPEG is 2Gig so I need to reduce it 65% to get it onto one CD. I have tried changing the Max/Ave Bitrates under the video stream settings but the file size jumps or shrinks without any proportion to the numbers I am entering. What am I doing wrong?

Hi criddle,

BBMpeg is not a very good encoder. I would suggest you open your MPEG-2 file with the new version of VirtualDub that can read MPEG-2 files, and then frameserve to TMPEG. This way you can have very good control of your encoding.

That's too bad.

My project at the moment is rescuing alot of very old and crummy video tapes (some as old as 18 years). After allot of experimentation with software and settings I have found the best method. Considering the number of skips and warbles in these tapes I am surprised I have found a method to keep the audio in sync. And BBMEG was the best to keep it in sync for the final file.

That's because the muxing was also done with BBMpeg. If you encode the video with TMPEG, and then mux with BBMpeg, you would also have perfect sync but better video quality
