ok, i tried the standard KVCDx2 1-CD for the widescreen version of karate kid part 2 and it came out 1.11GB. If i use the standard KVCDx2 2-CD template will that also be too big for 2 CD's?

How long is that movie? Karate kid is a high action movie. Not all films will fit in one CD-R.

it's 113 minutes. i lowered the cq to 38 and it's still too big for one cd. I don't know what to do. People on this forum claim to have fit movies with more action than karate kid on 1 CD, i think it's just that i'm doing something wrong. Thanks for the help

I did Harry Potter ( not action but ...) 2:21 min (cutted 5 min credits at the end) with KWAG KVCDx2+ on 2 CD's (just changed to 720x480 and 16:9 display)=> 1601mb

can you be more specific about how i should be more specific. I told you that i used the standard template, i told you its widescreen, i gave you the cq, and i gave the movie length. What else do you want to know?

Did you use avisynth? If yes ,what settings did you use?

In answer to your original question smoochie, it doesn't appear that just because kvcdx2-1cd is too large that kvcdx2-2cd will be. I determine this by bman's post about Harry Potter. He got the whole movie to fit in 1.6GB with the 2-cd template, while when I used the 1-CD template the size came out to be 900MB (too big for 1CD, but bman's fit in 2CDs just fine).

As long as you are using the templates "as-is", you may want to try enabling TemporalSmoother via AVISynth and/or turn on noise reduction to help squeeze the size down a bit. Beware that noise reduction will massacre your encoding times. I believe both filters will also (slightly) reduce the amount of detail (which is why you gain some additional compression.. things have been smoothed out).

Actually there are a few things that come to mind...

1. What is your source?...(DVD, Divx, Avi...?)
2. How are you frame serving (D2V, AviSynth, AVI)...?
3. Are you using the "Wizard" to load the template?
4. Is the source "Aspect Ratio" in the advance tab correct?
5. Did you resize in "Clip frame" ?(crop out any black bordering?)
6. Did you edit out ending credits in the "Source range"?
7. What setting did you use "Video Arrange Method" ...(fullscreen, center..what?)
8. Is the "GOP" structure" still 1-18-3-1-48?
9. Is your "Audio"... 44,100, Dual Channel, 160?
10. In the "System" tab, is the "stream type"... MPEG-1 VideoCD (non-standard)?
11. Did you burn with "compliance checks" off?

It should only take a second to answer these 1 - 11 questions (Y - N) whatever....

2. frameserving with dvd2avi, avisynth with temporal smoother.
3. no wizard
4. used fit cd to generate source aspect ration to xvcd.
5. only used the resize that fit cd did automatically, and also the blocks tv overscan used in fitcd was set to 2.
6. did not edit out ending credits, would like to keep them if possible.
7. all i did was load the avisynth script, load template, and hit start...should be full screen keep aspect ratio as far as i know.
8. GOP is 1-18-3-1-48 if that is was the standard template loads.
9. audio was 48,000, 160.
10. yes, mpeg-1 videocd(non-standard)
11. compliance checks off.

Thx for the quick reply...

Hmmmmm...Right off the bat, encoding in MPEG-1 (non-standard), gives lots of room to tweak, CQ, Min/Max bitrates, output resolutions, and audio is one of personal choice. The template is based around (44100 vs 48000). I see you use 48000 (might be your personal choice) but you can adjust (tweak) and save filesize there. Depending on home equipment and ear for quality, I generally use 160 - 192 but have used 128 on occasion to fit difficult projects onto one-cd.
Doing some short test encodes (w/tweaks) can verify your limit of quality in mb's per minute * movie length / cd size, before full encodes.. And bottom line, some movies need 2-cd's for acceptable quality.(full screen)

I do not personally use AviSynth, but there are very qualified forum posters in here (kwag...King-kong'n some bonsai trees somewhere's ) that can critique your frameserving scripting. (things like fitcd settings, add borders, aspect ratio, and other filters).

This seems to be one of those difficult movies unless I'm missing something obvious in your Avisynth scripting. But, I do know (have heard) that Temporal Smoothing should actually lower file size, and your getting a wicked large one! Maybe someone can step-up and help you with Avisynth...
Anyway, hopefully someone can work this out for you...
