Hi folks,

Does anybody know for sure what effect setting "Standard VCD" has on your MPEG stream?

Does it
a) override "illegal" settings like VBR ?
or
b) null-padding to fill up to VCD-standard streambitrate ?

and what about VBR streams with higher average bitrate than standard VCD?

I guess I could find out for myself using a bitrate Analyzer, but perhaps one of you already knows.

Meaning of "Standard VCD" just sets flags, etc, in the MPEG-1 stream that are 100% defined in the VCD standard. Like VBV buffer size, 352x240(28, audio 224Kbps, fixed constant bit rates for audio and video, fixed packet size, etc.
Anything that deviates from the VCD specifications, but stays inside the MPEG-1 definition, would be just an MPEG-1 stream.
There's also the CPB ( Constrained Parameter Bitstream ) which is a limited set of parameters to allow interoperability between decoders and encoders. Thanks to the CPB, which many DVD players conform to ( in the MPEG-1 decoding ), we can enjoy KVCD's
