Hello y'all! =)
I am a seasoned KVCD author and have made hundreds of my own KVCD's (which, IMHO, are of much higher quality than 95% of the ones I've seen 'around'). I recently purchased a DVD burner and wanted to start authoring DVD's. I've been reading around the forums and have found lots of information, although not necessarily everything that I've really wanted to find, and a lot of the information seems kind of confusing to me.
I was wondering if someone would be willing to write a quick and dirty guide on how to author a DVD backup for someone such as myself who already has experience with ripping/encoding (audio/video)/etc. Here is what I would like to do:
- Rip the full movie, encode in TMPGEnc using KDVD/DVD (know how to do this, but if I'm only encoding 2-3 hours on to a DVD-5, would I want KDVD or DVD..?)
- Re-encode the audio if necessary to shrink it (using HeadAC3he, know how to do this as well)
- Maintain the original menus but disable the options that I kept out of the backup, such as extra audio tracks, subtitles, special features, etc.
- Put it all together (video/audio track(s)/subtitle track(s)/menus)
Like I mentioned I already know how to do the encoding, and have heard of a tool called NuMenu to shrink down menus, but need some guidance on the actual menu editing and authoring stages to get it ready to burn. I have backed up one DVD on my own but just used DVDShrink and set compressions for different parts differently (ie: 50% for menu, 85% for film) but the encoding sucks IMHO and it doesn't disable the removed items, doesn't allow you to re-encode the audio if need be, nor does it allow you to selectively choose which parts you want to keep (ie: you have to get ALL the extras and menus or none at all).
Could someone write a quick guide using the necessary tools (TMPGEnc, IFOUpdate/Edit, NuMenu, DVDAuthor, DVDLab, or whichever tools necessary), or point me in the right direction? I have read about Doom9's 'Big 3' guide but have been unable to find it..
You guys rock!

Thanks..
