The thing that mainly confuses me is for making KDVD on the main setup the Bitrate what to put in there and in the advance settings.

I use PAL DVD Source so these are my settings:

Main Settings

Mpeg-2

Bitrate: ??? Unknown. What should I put

Use VBR: Yes

High Quality: Yes

Use Trellis Quant: Yes

2 Pass Encoding: Yes

Advanced Settings

Use KVCD 'Notch' Matrix: Yes

Gop Size: 15

"Extreme & Slow" Settings: Yes

Max B-Frames: 2

Mpeg 2 Only Settings

Inerlaced Encoding: Im unsure of this setting

DC Precision: ??? Also unsure of this figure

Auto Max Bitrate: Should I put a tick in the Auto Max Bitrate box or set a Max Bitrate???

4:3 Aspect Ratio

Can any1 tell me what the settings should be.

Thanks in advance.

Use these settings for 480x480/576
Code:
Main Settings
[X] MPEG-2
Bitrate (kbps) (Use CalcuMatic to get the correct average bitrate)
[X] Use VBR
[X] High Quality
[ ] Use Trellis
[X] 2 Pass Encoding
Advanced Options
[X] Use KVCD "Notch" Matrix
[ ] "Extreme & Slow" Settings
    GOP Size (NTSCFilm=24, PAL=25, NTSC=30)
[ ] Interlaced Encoding
    DC Precision = 8
[ ] Force Closed GOP
[ ] Scene Detection
[ ] Auto Max Bitrate
Max Bitrate (kbps) = (Depends on which script you're using)
    Aspect Ratio = 4:3

'Use Trellis' & '"Extreme & Slow" Settings' are NOT recommended for low bitrate encodings... The quality actually gets worse if you use them.

Thanks for the reply Audioslave I wanted to make a KDVD from a DVD Source at a resolution of 720 x 576.

What the settings still be the same as the ones you suggested above?

EDIT: Also as I want to make a KDVD I thought that my GOP should be 15 so should I use that as my GOP?

EDIT 2: On the Auto Max Bitrate setting. You said it depends on the script you are using. Please could explain this in a little more detail as I will be using the MA Script for my conversion.

What other scripts would affect this setting?

Thanks in advance.

I have never done a KDVD so I don't really know. But from what I've read, if you do a DVD->KDVD encoding you could probably use both 'Trellis Quant' and '"Extreme & Slow" Settings' if you're using an average bitrate above 2000. Do a test with a short sample first .

The GOP depends on your source; use 15 for PAL, and 18 for NTSC.

I don't know about DVD, but the maxbitrate should be the same that we would use in TMPGEnc I think. For SVCD resolution that is 2000 if you're using the MA script, and 2500 if you're using a static script.

I hope I've been able to answer at least a few of your questions . When it comes to encoding DVD's someone else have to help you. I have never done a KDVD encoding .

Thank you very much Audioslave for you help on this subject.

I appreciate your help on this subject.

I use KDVD these days as opposed to KVCD as I have a DVD Burner now and I like to keep my backups as near to as good as quality to their originals.

Thanks again buddy, I hope some KDVD expert can shed some light on the settings related to KDVD.
