I downlaoded and used mencoder me and it always tells me no sound. WHy is that? Also after I fix the sound and it is done converting with the sound, how do I burn the file with vcdeasy or alcohol 120? the file was a mpv file and I am not familiar with that. thanks

Adam

Hi Adam,
No way you can burn with VCDEasy. At least not until it also becomes DVDEasy .
Same goes with Alcohol 120%: good 1on1 copy utility but not able to author your video and sound to DVD specs.
Bottom line: you need a muxer utility and a burning utility.
You could choose DVDLab (or freeware IfoEdit) to author and Nero (or free ImgTool Classic+DVD Decrypter) to burn.
Almost forgot:
(I could be wrong but...) I'm sure MencodeMe doesn't encode audio at this stage.
That can be added in the future.
The sound options are there so that the encoder knows what room it will need to leave blank so that you can add audio afterwards .
Cheers

yes you're right, MencodeMe doesn't do audio. But it's in the to-do list.

Why, if libavcodec is audio mp2 capable, we can't encode and multiplex audio. Is it compiling related?

Hi Pro,
We're not only talking about MP2 here.
We're probably also talking about AC3, I hope.
And that's where FFmpeg has some problems and that's why Inc. is using DSPGuru's Besweet instead.
IMHO MencodeMe should do it with Mencoder's internals so it can keep platform independant but since it's based on FFmpeg and libavcodec I'm affraid it has got some very serious bugs.
I can try to make some tests but my ears are not so fine pitched as jorel's for instance...
Cheers

This not answers my previous question.
Does somebody can answer that?

Hi Pro,
As a matter of fact there nothing stoping us, with our current builds, of encoding both video and audio with mencoder.
But we could do that with tmpgenc and we rarely did, right?
So I believe we're fine tuning the video so that we can move on to audio.
But I think audio through mencoder doesn't sound as good as with HeadAC3he or Besweet.
I'll try to find it on bilu's and digi.doc's threads as I believe they also tried that.
Cheers

I like the way Inc's PackShot uses BeSweet for audio I know its an independant program but like you said RDS it is better than using Mencoder for audio.

I would be more than happy to download BeSweet seperately for MencoderME for it to support audio as I did for PackShot.

Hi Rui, if I remember well we didn't test audio then.
I read something about encoding audio in a three pass (audio was done in first pass), in a page that bilu posted the link. But we didn't test that.

BTW, I also wonder where Bruno is and if he's doing well... Looked for him here and at doom9, but it's a long time since last time he posted...

Besweet uses ac3enc which bases on ffmpeg lba52lib it gained from a fix now but still its in beta stage and DSPguru advised me to include a warning window into packshot if AC3 is choosen. Some people do report to low volumes on their encodings but I did manage this in PackShot and the other issues from some people I cant copy, maybe source related ... I dont know.

Well I did a lot encodes using ac3enc ... and had never problems except the volume issue, but thats now almost solved ... I think
