Hi Kwag,

I am very pleased with the results of your wonderful templates, thus far. However; I am noticing occasional abrupt scene changes. When a scene happens to change, sometimes the transition is not smooth, but rather there are a few thin, white horizontal lines that appear when the rest of the frame "loads" onto the screen.

I have a Mintek 1600 and am using your 352 x 480 Plus template. I ripped the movie "Van Wilder" which is full screen/anamorphic with CladXP using the FORCE FILM frame serving option. Then in TMPGEnc, I chose the 3:2 pull down option (as I need to have the file in 29.97 FPS), noise reduction, and motion search=high (slow). This is my preferred setup and I have not found the abrupt changes to be linked to the options I select to use above.

So, any idea as to what may be causing this and how I might go about fixing it? Is this an I-frame issue? Frame rate?

On a related noted, I notice that playback of full screen encoded mpg's when compared to wide screen encodes (with templates/options the same for both) is not as smooth. How should I remedy this?

Thanks for your help.

Hi 100571,
Do you notice the same behaviour with the 352x240 or 704x480 plus templates?

With the 704 x 480, yes. I have never tried the 352 x 240 because I have heard that the quality is on par with VCD. I would love to retain the quality I have come to enjoy with the other templates while resolving this scene change issue. Iccidentally, I am encoding in MPEG-1 (non-standard) and burn as VCD with Nero.

Thanks for the help.

I guess we'll have to wait for someone else that has a Mintek 1600 and see if they experience the same problem. I have 5 diferent DVD players, and I have never experienced what you have described, with any of the resolutions. So, anyone else with a Mintek 1600 reading this

I'm using the 704x480 template and notice the same thing.

Player is a RCA 5240P.

I'm trying the 352x480 plus right now.
