For the Apex's with audio trouble=
bman, suggested a method to get mpg1 vbr, kwag, to play on some audio-skippin' apex's. Demultiplex and ReMultiplex with bbmpg 1.8 as an SVCD.
Myself , Apex 1500, and other users are reporting that this method works. I did have some hiccups on some divx to kwag'd mpg1. Hey, maybe that should be a guide Divx to kwag, a sort of DivK(w) if u would.
Panasonic Mpg1 and SVCD=
As earlier reported, some Panasonic DVD-RV31 will play Kwag'd mpg1-VBR natively at 352x480, mine does anyhow, no probs.
However, it does not play svcd. Or so went the reports even from panasonic, {according to some users over at vcdhelp}.
On da flipside, though=
Playing around with different settings to get SVCD to play on my DVD-RV31, I accidentally popped in an svcd, fully compliant, one cdr, that I had created to play on my Apex 1500 into the RV-31. And it worked! It played flawlessly. Upon analysing the settings I noticed that I had enable {using VCDEasy, but nero may have the same setting for it}, the old MPGAV trick instead of mpg2. I believe it basically tweaks the entry folder and file name.
"Use MPEGAV/ENTRYSVD instead of MPEG2/ENTRYVCD (for non-complaint DVD Players)".
It may or may not help with your RV-31. It did mine. Bought the unit in december 2001, so I'm not sure if it's on the newer models, or all.

Hi Zooter:
Try changing the output in the template to 352x240 ( or 288 ).
Leave all other parameters as they are.
I tried it with my old Apex AD-600A and it worked.

The next question begs to be asked: What is the trade off by dropping from 480 to 240 and can it be reclaimed by upping the CQ AND/OR Max bitrate
Related question: Is the SVCD standard (480x480) that much better then a VCD at 352x240? Yes, I know 2x the H lines but picture detail like sharpness etc.
I am able to get ~90 min at MPEG2 480x480 VBR 0-1150 Q100 Normal 44k128. No adjustments elsewhere. Any thoughts

Hi video-man:
Have you tried re-muxing your MPEG file as SVCD with bbmpeg?
This is a fix that works on many Apex models.
