Fantastic bit of software.

I'm using it to some divxs right now.

VCD at 352x240 is already de-interlaced because you are halving the frame size (480 is cut to 240). By throwing out half the video hight you have effectively de-interlaced.

Ran DVD2KVCD on Rapid Fire. Everything went perfectly. Video was maybe 20 megs undersize, but looked very good (1 disk skvcd). I might try it again as mpeg 1 muxed as svcd...

ok, I think the main advantage you have with avisynth is speed...and the fact that so much work has been done with it here. You can go to the optimal script section and find answers to most encoding...

If you use the template I believe it is within the DVD specs as 1/2 DVD...I have run into one player though that wouldn't play it. Couldn't give you the brand off hand, but it played it half screen...
