Answer

When viewing the AVI file it skips in a very consistent rate. It looks like a frame per second is missing.

I made a TOTAL GUESS that the source was 25fps and it was just encoded at 23.976.

Why ImgTool?

Kwag,

I have been using DVDShrink for a week or two now. I open a DVD and then deselect the audio and subs I do not want. I set the shrinkage for the menus, extras and movie. Then I backup to a...

48x ALL THE WAY!

I have consistently burned my KVCDs at 48x on my "hacked" Liteon drive. It was originally a 40x and I upgraded it to 48x via a firmware update.

In many cases I am able to burn at 40x or 48x on...

DVD Shrink vs. KDVD (or KVCD)

How does DVD Shrink accomplish the "shrinking" of a movie?

If I have a DVD (i.e. Old School) and I use 25% to fit just the movie (no extras or menus)...

And I also created an equally sized KDVD...

Finally... Kwag has ReplayTV.

You can absolutely use the device as a recorder only! It is never going to be as simple to use as a VCR but there are ways to make it close.

I have a couple 5040s. I have upgraded one to 120GB...

Additional Explanation

My whole idea is to create a slef-referencing script where any "variable" that I might change depending on the source would be easily changed without having to copy the entire script. That is easy...

Why are the DivX encodes so flawed?

There is no question that DivX has this awsome following and in most places (ah.. hem!... Doom9 forums) there is constant talk about how it is the most superior format. :o

I have created...

ReClock...

Reclock seems to work very well for me. Not only does it control peak playback but it also will help sync framerate for smoothest playback and best sync.

It makes a huge difference on bad DivX...

I have really researched this topic. I have tested several projects and there are some swift menu creation tools in the Ulead packages, Nero Vision (not regular Nero), DVDeo... and sevaral others......

Yes... resizing is the problem...

Any chance of using GripCrop?

It really eliminates the resizing issues. I was having constant problems with trying to tweak resizing until I decided on another method.

Now I crop in DVD2AVI if...

The end result is...

Rethinking 480?

I used to agree with the idea of using 480x480. TOK works fine if you are resizing with Avisynth. I actually was using the KVCD3 template and just changing 528 to 480.

However, I changed my mind...

Is it an MPEG1 or MPEG2 file?

If your source is MPEG2 then use DVD2AVI. (Even with MPEG1 is works fine for me).

I can't figure out why anyone frameserves from VirtualDub anymore. (Maybe a couple of obscure filters are nice...
