I have some old interactive tutorial videos on dvd, originally designed to be seen in a browser, where the videos are in swf format (I believe). Nothing I have seems to open or convert them. Are there any suggestions please, eg might there be something which converts swf to MP4, or something else recomemended ?

Handbrake will open SWF files on my system. You can then use it to convert.
