Hi,

In the interest of comparing non-corrected video vs tbc's video, I am thinking of doing 2 parallel captures (2x same capture card) from a vp-299.

Out1:TBC -> Capture card
VCR->VP-299 -<
Out2:-> Capture card

Only question is: how transparent is the VP-299? Is the distributed output signal still workable for time base correction?

VP-299 transparency is highly variable. Early models tend to be best, latter models tend to be noisy. But it's not a rigid rule, I've seen good latter and early crap.

I have a perfect unit here for myself, and another for a happy new owner.

I've had others that I gutted for TBC-1000 parts.

When the unit is bad, re-cap isn't necessarily the fix, either. Some have inherent flaws, cannot be fixed.

Maybe use a JVC switcher instead at least. I like/use the JX-S series. JX-S777 for example

Thanks but why would I invest money in a switcher, for some "testing for fun", especially that I already have 2 vp299...

Does not make sense in my particular case, and generally not in this use-case I explained

Because as you asked, and found out, the VP-299 isn't great. Which is why most people bypass them on the TBC1000s.

Oh, sorry, maybe I was not clear enough, but I was not asking for suggestions/about a general distro amp solution. I was asking very specifically about what I have already (vp299) and how transparent it is as I specified in the post. It is not worth investing money in new devices for me as I only use it for the fun of it...
