I have DVD-ROMs of learning resources with menu options etc. Is there a particular guide on how to copy those to hard drive ? Is it just the same as copying a DVD ?

I am on Windows 7 so is there a recommended way (software etc) to play it direct from the desktop or hard drive ?

The best way is to copy it as a disc image, Just install IMGBurn and copy it, assuming the content is not copy protected. Then use a disc image tool (virtual drive) such as Virtual CloneDrive to load the image just like you would load a physical disc.
